These Apple Fritter Bites are a delightful twist on a classic fall treat, combining tender, fluffy fried dough with the rich flavor of apple butter for a sweet, comforting bite-sized snack. Perfect for breakfast, dessert, or an indulgent snack, they feature a light batter enriched with buttermilk and baked to golden perfection, dusted with confectionary sugar for an extra touch of sweetness.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-Purpose Flour, whisked
  • 1 ¼ teaspoons Baking Powder
  • ¼ teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 teaspoons Pure Cane Sugar

Wet Ingredients

  • ¾ cup Buttermilk, room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons Melted Unsalted Butter, organic preferred
  • 1 cup Friends Drift Inn Apple Butter
  • 2 large Eggs, organic preferred

Optional

  • Confectionary Sugar for Dusting

Instructions

  1. Prepare Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cane sugar until well combined to ensure even distribution of leavening agents.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, melted unsalted butter, organic eggs, and apple butter until smooth and well incorporated.
  3. Combine Batter: Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix to maintain a light and tender texture in the fritter bites.
  4. Preheat Cooking Method: Heat a deep fryer or a heavy-bottom skillet with about 2 inches of oil to 350°F (175°C) for frying the bites. Alternatively, prep an air fryer if using an air frying method.
  5. Fry Apple Fritter Bites: Carefully drop spoonfuls of batter (about 1 tablespoon each) into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Cook for 2–3 minutes per side or until golden brown and cooked through, turning as needed for even color.
  6. Drain and Cool: Use a slotted spoon to remove the fritter bites and transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  7. Dust and Serve: Once slightly cooled, dust the apple fritter bites generously with confectionary sugar for a sweet finishing touch. Serve warm for best flavor.

Notes

  • Use room temperature buttermilk and eggs for better batter consistency.
  • Do not overmix the batter to prevent dense fritters.
  • Maintain oil temperature at 350°F to avoid greasy bites.
  • Fritter bites can be reheated briefly in the oven to regain crispness.
  • Apple butter adds moisture and natural sweetness, no additional sugar needed in batter.
