Ingredients

Bang Bang Sauce:

¼ cup mayonnaise

¼ cup Thai sweet chili sauce

Sriracha sauce, to taste

Fried Shrimp:

½ cup buttermilk

¼ teaspoon onion powder

¼ teaspoon garlic powder

¼ teaspoon salt

1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined, tails removed

Canola oil or peanut oil, for frying

¾ cup cornstarch

Tacos:

812 small white corn tortillas (or hard shell tacos)

3 cups shredded cabbage

¼ cup chopped cilantro

2 green onions, sliced

Lime juice

Thinly sliced jalapeños, optional

Instructions

  • Prepare the Bang Bang Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, Thai sweet chili sauce, and sriracha sauce to your desired spice level. Set aside.

  • Prepare the Fried Shrimp: In a medium bowl, combine buttermilk, onion powder, garlic powder, and salt. Add the shrimp and let them soak for about 5 minutes.

  • In a separate shallow bowl, place the cornstarch. Dredge each shrimp in the cornstarch, pressing gently to ensure an even coating.

  • Heat about 2 inches of oil in a large skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat. Once the oil reaches 350°F (175°C), carefully add the shrimp in batches, ensuring they aren’t crowded. Fry for about 2-3 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Remove the shrimp with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate.

  • Assemble the Tacos: Warm the tortillas in a dry skillet or microwave. Once ready, layer each tortilla with shredded cabbage, then add the fried shrimp. Drizzle the Bang Bang Sauce over the shrimp.

  • Top with chopped cilantro, sliced green onions, a squeeze of lime juice, and thinly sliced jalapeños if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

Taco Style: Feel free to use flour tortillas or hard taco shells if you prefer.

Grilled Shrimp: For a lighter option, grill the shrimp instead of frying them. Marinate shrimp in the buttermilk mixture, season with salt and pepper, and grill for 2-3 minutes per side.

Vegetarian Option: Substitute the shrimp with crispy fried cauliflower or tempura vegetables for a delicious vegetarian taco.

Extra Heat: If you love spice, increase the sriracha in the Bang Bang Sauce or add cayenne pepper to the cornstarch mixture for the shrimp.
