Ingredients

Base

810 garlic cloves

2 tbsp olive oil

Pinch of salt

Roasted garlic from above

½ cup butter, melted (113g)

1 egg

¼ cup milk (60g)

½ tsp salt

½ tsp paprika

2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley

12 King’s Hawaiian Original Hawaiian Sheet Rolls (or a French baguette of similar size)

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Chopped parsley and chili flakes for serving

Instructions

  • Roast the Garlic: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice the garlic bulb, drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with salt, wrap in foil, and roast for 30-35 minutes until soft. Let it cool.

  • Prepare the Butter Mixture: Mix melted butter, egg, milk, salt, paprika, and chopped parsley. Squeeze roasted garlic out of the skins and mash into the butter mixture.

  • Prepare the Rolls: Place the rolls on a baking sheet. If using sheet rolls, leave them whole.

  • Assemble the Rolls: Pour the garlic butter mixture evenly over the rolls, allowing the butter to seep into cracks if needed.

  • Add the Cheese: Sprinkle shredded mozzarella over the rolls, ensuring even coverage.

  • Bake: Bake for 15-20 minutes until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly golden, and the bread is crispy around the edges.

  • Serve: Garnish with chopped parsley and chili flakes. Serve hot.

Notes

Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.

Reheating: Reheat at 350°F (175°C) for 5-10 minutes to restore crispness and melt the cheese.

Variations: Add herbs like oregano or rosemary to the butter for added flavor, or add more chili flakes for spice.
