This Black Cocoa Milkshake combines the richness of black cocoa powder, creamy vanilla ice cream, and a touch of maple syrup. It’s a strikingly dark and indulgent treat, perfect for satisfying your chocolate cravings with a sweet, creamy finish.

Ingredients

1/4 cup (60 ml) heavy cream or whipping cream (optional, for whipped cream topping)

Black sanding sugar (for rimming the glass)

2 cups (475 ml) vanilla ice cream, packed

1/4 cup-1/2 cup (60120 ml) milk

3+ tablespoons (26 grams) black cocoa powder

2 tablespoons maple syrup

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Optional: Sprinkles for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Glass: If using whipped cream and black sanding sugar, dip the rim of your glass into heavy cream and then into the black sanding sugar to coat. Set aside.
  2. Make the Milkshake: In a blender, combine the vanilla ice cream, milk, black cocoa powder, maple syrup, and vanilla extract. Blend until smooth and creamy, adjusting the milk for your desired consistency.
  3. Optional Whipped Cream Topping: Whip the heavy cream in a chilled bowl until stiff peaks form and top the milkshake with it.
  4. Garnish and Serve: Pour the milkshake into the prepared glass, add whipped cream (if using), sprinkle with desired toppings, and serve immediately with a straw.

Notes

Black cocoa powder gives a deeper flavor and color than regular cocoa powder. You can substitute regular cocoa powder if necessary, but it will alter the color and flavor.

Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less maple syrup based on your preference.

For a thicker milkshake, use less milk; for a thinner one, add more.
