Bread Pudding Sauce is a rich, buttery, and creamy topping with a hint of vanilla that perfectly complements bread pudding and other desserts. Quick to make and indulgent, it transforms simple sweets into something special.

Ingredients

1/2 cup butter (use real butter, not margarine)

1/2 cup heavy whipping cream (not fat-free)

1 cup granulated sugar

1 1/22 teaspoons vanilla extract

Optional: 1/8–1/4 teaspoon kosher salt or flaky sea salt

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Stir in the cream and sugar, whisking until the sugar is fully dissolved.
  3. Bring mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 3–4 minutes, stirring constantly until slightly thickened.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and optional salt.
  5. Let cool slightly before pouring over bread pudding or other desserts.

Notes

The sauce will thicken slightly as it cools; reheat gently to loosen.

Add bourbon, rum, or brandy for a boozy variation.

Brown sugar can be used instead of white sugar for a caramel-like flavor.

For dairy-free, substitute with vegan butter and coconut cream.
