A quick and delicious Caprese Flatbread topped with hummus, fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, basil, and a sweet balsamic glaze, offering a perfect balance of savory, creamy, and tangy flavors.

Ingredients

1 piece flatbread such as naan or pita

½ cup hummus, any flavor

5 slices fresh mozzarella cheese

5 fresh tomato slices

1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil

¼ cup balsamic vinegar

1 tablespoon brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Place the flatbread on a baking sheet and bake for 5-7 minutes, or until slightly crispy and golden.
  3. While the flatbread bakes, combine the balsamic vinegar and brown sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir occasionally until the mixture thickens and reduces to a syrupy consistency (about 5 minutes). Remove from heat and set aside.
  4. Once the flatbread is done baking, remove it from the oven and spread a thin layer of hummus evenly across the surface.
  5. Place the mozzarella slices on top of the hummus, followed by the tomato slices.
  6. Return the flatbread to the oven for an additional 5 minutes, or until the mozzarella has melted slightly.
  7. Remove the flatbread from the oven and sprinkle the chopped basil on top.
  8. Drizzle the balsamic glaze over the flatbread and serve immediately.

Notes

For extra protein, try adding grilled chicken, turkey, or chickpeas to the flatbread.

For a vegan version, use dairy-free cheese and hummus for a completely plant-based dish.

Substitute hummus with pesto or ricotta if preferred.

For more heat, add red pepper flakes or drizzle with hot sauce.
