Elegant and delicious Caramel Apple Trifles layered with creamy caramel mousse, crunchy apple crumble, and homemade caramel sauce. A festive fall dessert that’s simple to assemble but impressive to serve.

Ingredients

Caramel Mousse:
1 cup cold heavy cream
2 tablespoons sugar
1/4 cup caramel sauce (see below)

Caramel Sauce:
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
6 tablespoons heavy cream
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

Apple Crumble:
1/2 cup diced fresh apples
1/2 cup apple chips
1/2 cup crumbled granola

Instructions

  1. Make the caramel sauce: In a saucepan, combine sugar and water over medium heat until dissolved and golden. Add butter and stir until melted, then whisk in cream and salt. Let cool completely.
  2. Prepare the mousse: Whip heavy cream with sugar until soft peaks form. Gently fold in 1/4 cup cooled caramel sauce until smooth.
  3. Make the apple crumble: Mix diced apples, apple chips, and granola in a bowl.
  4. Assemble trifles: In serving glasses, layer caramel mousse, apple crumble, and a drizzle of caramel sauce.
  5. Repeat the layers and finish with caramel sauce on top.

Notes

Add cinnamon or nutmeg to the apple crumble for extra warmth.

Spiced granola works well for more flavor.

Use Greek yogurt mixed with caramel for a lighter version.

Top with whipped cream or toasted pecans for indulgence.

Assemble just before serving to keep the crumble crunchy.
