Carne Asada is a delicious, juicy steak marinated with lime, garlic, cilantro, and jalapeño for bold, vibrant flavor. Grilled to perfection, this savory dish is perfect for tacos, burritos, or served with rice and veggies. Simple to prepare, the marinade infuses the meat with tenderness and taste, making it a crowd-pleaser for any occasion!

Ingredients

6 tbsp Olive oil

6 tbsp Lime juice

1 medium Jalapeño (minced; use 2 for extra heat)

4 cloves Garlic (minced)

1/2 cup Fresh cilantro (chopped finely)

1 tsp Cumin

1 1/2 tsp Sea salt

1/2 tsp Black pepper

2 lb Flank steak (or skirt steak)

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together olive oil, lime juice, minced jalapeño, minced garlic, chopped cilantro, cumin, sea salt, and black pepper.

  • Place the flank steak (or skirt steak) into a large resealable plastic bag or shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the steak and ensure it’s well coated.

  • Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or ideally 4-6 hours. For maximum flavor, marinate overnight.

  • Preheat your grill or a grill pan over medium-high heat. Remove the steak from the marinade and discard the leftover marinade.

  • Grill the steak for about 4-6 minutes per side, depending on thickness and your preferred doneness (130°F for medium-rare).

  • Let the steak rest for 5-10 minutes, then slice against the grain into thin strips.

  • Serve immediately with tortillas, rice, beans, or salsa for a complete meal!

Notes

Heat Level: Adjust the jalapeño to your desired spice level. For less heat, remove the seeds or use a milder pepper.

Smoky Flavor: Add a teaspoon of smoked paprika to the marinade for a smoky twist.

Other Cuts of Beef: Skirt steak is ideal, but ribeye or sirloin will also work. Adjust cooking time as needed.

Skillet Option: If you don’t have a grill, sear the steak in a hot skillet over high heat for 4-6 minutes per side.
