The Cheesy Garlic Cruffin is a delightful hybrid pastry combining the flaky texture of a croissant with the convenience of a muffin, filled with a rich blend of garlic butter, fresh chives, and melted cheddar cheese. Perfectly golden and irresistibly savory, these cruffins are an ideal treat for breakfast, brunch, or a savory snack.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 3 tubes (8 ounces each) refrigerated crescent roll sheets

Filling

  • ½ cup (1 stick / 113 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 tablespoon chives, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
  • 3 cups (339 g) mild cheddar cheese, shredded, divided

Garlic Butter

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon chives, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: Unroll one tube of the refrigerated crescent roll sheet and lay it flat on a clean surface. Brush the softened butter evenly over the dough, sprinkle chopped chives and minced garlic on top, and then evenly distribute 1 cup of shredded mild cheddar cheese over the surface.
  2. Roll and Assemble: Roll the dough sheet tightly into a log, starting from the wider end to the narrow end. Cut the log into pieces about 2 inches wide.
  3. Form the Cruffins: Lightly grease a muffin tin and place each piece of the rolled dough cut side up into each muffin cup. Repeat the process with the remaining dough sheets and filling.
  4. Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the cruffins for about 15-20 minutes until they are golden brown and cooked through, and the cheese is melted.
  5. Prepare the Garlic Butter Glaze: While baking, mix melted unsalted butter with minced garlic, chopped chives, and kosher salt.
  6. Brush and Serve: When the cruffins come out of the oven, immediately brush them generously with the garlic butter glaze for an extra burst of flavor and shine. Allow them to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure the butter for the filling is softened to spread easily without tearing the dough.
  • Use mild cheddar cheese for a creamy texture and flavor; sharper cheddar can be used for more tang.
  • For best results, serve the cruffins warm to enjoy the melted cheese inside.
  • The garlic butter glaze can be adjusted with additional herbs like parsley or oregano for variety.
  • If preferred, crescent roll dough can be substituted with puff pastry for a flakier texture.
