Ingredients

1 large egg

3/4 cup whole milk

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1/2 cup quick-cooking oats

1/2 cup chopped onion

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 pound ground beef

2/3 cup ketchup

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

11/2 teaspoons prepared mustard

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a loaf pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

  • In a large bowl, beat the egg and milk together. Add shredded cheddar cheese, oats, chopped onion, and salt, and stir to combine.

  • Add the ground beef to the mixture and gently combine until evenly incorporated. Be careful not to overmix.

  • Transfer the meat mixture into the prepared loaf pan and shape it into a loaf.

  • In a small bowl, mix together the ketchup, brown sugar, and mustard until smooth. Pour evenly over the top of the meatloaf.

  • Bake for 60-70 minutes, or until the meatloaf reaches an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).

  • Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

For added flavor, substitute cheddar cheese with mozzarella or Monterey Jack.

For a spicy version, add hot sauce or crushed red pepper flakes to the meat mixture.

You can add vegetables like carrots or zucchini for extra moisture and nutrients.
