A quick and customizable instant oatmeal recipe that can be pre-mixed for convenience. This recipe provides a wholesome, warm breakfast in minutes using quick oats combined with cream powder, seeds, and your choice of mix-ins like dried fruit or nuts. Perfect for busy mornings or on-the-go meals.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup quick oats (1 minute oats)
  • 1 Tbsp cream powder (or powdered milk)
  • 1 to 2 tsp white sugar (or brown sugar or coconut sugar)
  • 1/2 tsp chia seeds (or ground flax seeds)
  • 1 fair pinch salt

Mix-Ins

  • 2 to 4 Tbsp mix ins such as freeze dried fruit, nuts, or dried fruit (see notes)

Liquid

  • 3/4 cup boiling water (for stovetop method)
  • 1 cup water (for microwave method)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the instant oatmeal mix: In a 12 oz heat proof food storage container, combine the quick oats, cream powder, sugar, chia seeds or flax seeds, salt, and your choice of 2 to 4 tablespoons of mix-ins like freeze dried fruit, nuts, or dried fruit. Seal the container tightly and store the mix in a cool place for up to one month.
  2. Stovetop preparation: When ready to eat, pour 3/4 cup of boiling water over the oat mixture in the jar, stir well, and let it rest for 2 minutes to thicken and hydrate the oats before serving.
  3. Microwave preparation: Alternatively, transfer the instant oat mix to a 16 to 24 oz microwave-safe bowl. Add 1 cup of water, stir to combine, then microwave uncovered for 1 to 1 1/2 minutes. After microwaving, let the oatmeal rest for 2 minutes to fully absorb the liquid and develop a creamy texture.

Notes

  • You can customize your oatmeal by changing the mix-ins; try nuts, freeze dried fruits, or dried fruits according to your preference.
  • Store the instant oatmeal mix in airtight containers to maintain freshness for up to 1 month.
  • Adjust the water quantity slightly for thicker or thinner oatmeal according to your liking.
  • Use brown sugar or coconut sugar for a different flavor profile or less processed option.
  • For a creamier texture, substitute cream powder with powdered milk or a non-dairy powdered creamer.
