Crispy Air Fryer Onion Rings are a lighter take on the classic snack, with tender onions inside and a golden, crunchy breadcrumb coating made without deep frying.

Ingredients

2 large yellow onions, peeled and sliced into 1/2-inch rings

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 tsp smoked paprika

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp black pepper

1 cup milk

1 large egg

2 cups panko breadcrumbs

Instructions

  1. Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Separate onion slices into rings and set aside.
  3. In a shallow bowl, whisk together flour, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. In another bowl, whisk milk and egg until smooth.
  5. Place panko breadcrumbs in a separate dish.
  6. Dip each onion ring first into the flour mixture, then into the milk-egg mixture, and finally coat in breadcrumbs, pressing gently to stick.
  7. Arrange coated onion rings in a single layer in the air fryer basket, spraying lightly with cooking oil.
  8. Cook for 10–12 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden brown and crispy.
  9. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

Add cayenne pepper to the flour mixture for extra spice.

Use seasoned breadcrumbs instead of plain panko for more flavor.

Mix grated Parmesan into the breadcrumbs for a cheesy twist.

Best served fresh, as they lose crunch if microwaved.

Double-dip onion rings for an extra thick and crispy coating.
