A quick and easy recipe for Crispy Buffalo Shrimp that features perfectly seasoned, crunchy shrimp tossed in spicy buffalo sauce. Ideal as an appetizer or main dish, these shrimp are coated in a flavorful flour mixture and crisped to perfection using olive oil, delivering a satisfying kick with every bite.

Ingredients

Shrimp and Coating

  • 1 pound shrimp, 21-25 per pound – peeled and deveined, with or without tails removed
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons purchased buffalo sauce, or homemade buffalo sauce (see tips)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the shrimp coating: In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, kosher salt, ground black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix thoroughly to ensure an even distribution of seasoning.
  2. Coat the shrimp: Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels. Dredge the shrimp one by one into the seasoned flour mixture, ensuring each shrimp is fully coated. Shake off any excess flour.
  3. Heat the olive oil: In a large skillet, heat 3 tablespoons of olive oil over medium-high heat until shimmering but not smoking. This will help achieve a crispy texture.
  4. Cook the shrimp: Add the coated shrimp in a single layer to the hot skillet. Cook the shrimp for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they turn golden brown and crispy. Do not overcrowd the pan; cook in batches if necessary.
  5. Toss in buffalo sauce: Remove the cooked shrimp from the skillet and transfer to a large bowl. Immediately add the 2 tablespoons of buffalo sauce and toss well to coat each shrimp evenly with the spicy sauce.
  6. Serve: Serve the crispy buffalo shrimp immediately while hot, with your choice of dipping sauce or accompaniments such as celery sticks or ranch dressing.

Notes

  • For a homemade buffalo sauce, mix equal parts melted butter and hot sauce (such as Frank’s RedHot) with a pinch of garlic powder.
  • Ensure shrimp are patted dry before coating to help the flour mixture stick better.
  • Do not overcrowd the pan while frying to maintain crispiness.
  • Use medium-high heat to achieve a golden crust without overcooking the shrimp.
  • These shrimp are best enjoyed fresh to maintain their crisp texture.
