  2. In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add sliced onion and sausage; cook until onion softens and sausage browns. Set aside.

  3. Slice French bread or deli rolls lengthwise to create flat surfaces; place on a baking sheet.

  4. Spread marinara sauce or pesto evenly on each bread slice.

  5. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella generously over sauce.

  6. Add cooked sausage and onion mixture, then layer desired toppings.

  7. Finish with grated parmesan cheese.

  8. Bake 12-15 minutes until cheese melts and bread edges are crispy.

  9. Let cool slightly, slice, and serve.

Notes

Try different sauces like BBQ or Alfredo for variety.

Add fresh basil or arugula after baking for freshness.

Substitute mozzarella with cheese blends such as cheddar, provolone, or fontina.

Make vegetarian by skipping sausage and adding extra veggies.

Use gluten-free bread for dietary restrictions.

Store leftovers in airtight container in fridge up to 2 days; reheat in oven to keep crust crisp.
