French Chocolate Mousse (Mousse Au Chocolat)

A rich and silky French chocolate mousse made with dark chocolate, whipped cream, and a touch of sugar. Decadent yet airy, it’s the perfect make-ahead dessert for any occasion.

Ingredients

10.5 oz (300 g) dark chocolate, chopped

⅔ cup whole milk

1 ¼ cups heavy cream

½ cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Gently heat milk in a saucepan until hot but not boiling.
  2. Place chopped chocolate in a heatproof bowl and pour hot milk over it. Let sit 1 minute, then stir until smooth.
  3. Set chocolate mixture aside to cool slightly.
  4. In another bowl, whip heavy cream with powdered sugar until soft peaks form.
  5. When chocolate mixture is lukewarm, gently fold in whipped cream to keep mousse airy.
  6. Divide into serving glasses or bowls and refrigerate at least 2 hours until set.

Notes

Add a splash of espresso or coffee liqueur for deeper flavor.

Top with raspberries, strawberries, or shaved chocolate for garnish.

Orange zest adds a refreshing citrus twist.

Best after chilling overnight for enhanced texture and flavor.
