Bite-sized cubes of custardy brioche French toast served in shot glasses with maple syrup, making a fun and elegant brunch or party treat.

Ingredients

4 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

2 tbsp sugar

1 tbsp bourbon or 1 tsp vanilla extract

Pinch of salt

1 loaf brioche bread (810 slices, 1-inch thick)

Butter, for cooking

Maple syrup, for serving

Instructions

  1. Whisk eggs, milk, sugar, bourbon or vanilla, and salt in a shallow bowl.
  2. Cut brioche into 1-inch cubes.
  3. Dip cubes into custard mixture briefly, without letting them fall apart.
  4. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat and cook soaked cubes until golden brown on all sides.
  5. Transfer cubes to a plate and let cool slightly.
  6. Arrange a few cubes in each shot glass or mini cup.
  7. Drizzle with warm maple syrup just before serving.

Notes

Add cinnamon or nutmeg to custard for extra flavor.

Top shooters with whipped cream, berries, or powdered sugar for presentation.

For a boozy brunch, mix a splash of bourbon or rum into the syrup.

Cook cubes ahead and assemble shooters fresh before serving.

Reheat cooked cubes in the oven, not microwave, to keep them crisp.
