Fresh Peach Kuchen is a classic German-inspired dessert featuring a soft yeast dough base, a silky custard layer, and juicy fresh peaches on top. Finished with a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar, this comforting yet elegant treat is perfect for summer gatherings or family meals.

Ingredients

2 eggs, room temperature, whisked

1/2 cup sugar

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

4 1/2 teaspoons instant yeast (2 packets rapid-rise yeast)

1 3/4 cups whole milk, room temperature or warmed to 98°F

1/2 cup butter, softened

6 cups all-purpose flour (4 to 6 cups as needed)

6 eggs, whisked, room temperature

3 cups cream

1 cup whole milk

1/2 cup sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/8 teaspoon salt

4 cups fresh peaches, sliced

Cinnamon and sugar mixture, for garnishing

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, sugar, and cinnamon. Add yeast and warmed milk, mixing until smooth.
  2. Add softened butter, then gradually incorporate flour until a soft dough forms. Knead until elastic and smooth. Cover and let rise for about 1 hour, until doubled in size.
  3. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  4. Punch down dough and press evenly into the pan. Let rise another 20–30 minutes.
  5. Whisk together eggs, cream, milk, sugar, cinnamon, and salt to make the custard.
  6. Arrange peach slices over the dough, then pour custard evenly on top.
  7. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
  8. Bake for 40–50 minutes, until custard is set and edges are golden brown.
  9. Cool slightly before serving warm, or chill for a firmer custard.

Notes

Use ripe, juicy peaches for best flavor.

Peeling peaches is optional; skins add color and texture.

Can be made with nectarines, plums, or apricots instead of peaches.

Add vanilla extract to custard for extra flavor.

Great served warm with coffee or chilled as a summer dessert.
