Homemade Apple Dumplings with puff pastry are a cozy fall dessert featuring tender Granny Smith apples wrapped in flaky pastry, filled with cinnamon-sugar, and baked with cream for a rustic, comforting finish.

Ingredients

4 Granny Smith apples, peeled and cored (left whole)

1 sheet puff pastry, thawed

½ cup heavy cream

1 egg, beaten

4 tbsp sugar

2 tsp ground cinnamon

Flour, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Lightly dust a work surface with flour and roll out puff pastry sheet.
  3. Cut pastry into 4 equal squares.
  4. Mix sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
  5. Place one apple in the center of each pastry square and sprinkle some cinnamon-sugar into the hollow center.
  6. Fold pastry corners up around each apple and pinch to seal.
  7. Brush outside of pastry with beaten egg.
  8. Place dumplings on prepared baking sheet.
  9. Pour heavy cream evenly over and around dumplings.
  10. Sprinkle tops with remaining cinnamon-sugar.
  11. Bake 35–40 minutes, until pastry is golden and apples are tender.
  12. Cool slightly before serving, optionally with ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

Use Granny Smith apples for the best balance of tartness and sweetness.

Optional fillings include raisins, walnuts, or pecans inside the apples.

Caramel drizzle or nutmeg/cloves can add extra flavor.

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 3 days.

Reheat in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 10–12 minutes for best crispness.
