This homemade tartar sauce is a creamy, tangy, and flavorful condiment made with mayonnaise, dill pickles, fresh dill, and lemon juice. Perfect for fried fish, seafood, or as a dip for fries and veggies, it’s quick to make and beats store-bought versions every time!

Ingredients

1 cup mayonnaise

½ cup minced dill pickles

1 tablespoon minced fresh dill

2 teaspoons lemon juice

1 teaspoon onion powder

Instructions

  • In a medium-sized bowl, combine the mayonnaise, minced dill pickles, fresh dill, lemon juice, and onion powder.

  • Stir well to combine all ingredients.

  • Taste and adjust seasoning if needed, adding more lemon juice or onion powder for extra flavor.

  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.

  • Serve with fried fish, seafood, or your favorite crispy dishes.

Notes

Add heat by incorporating hot sauce, cayenne pepper, or diced jalapeños.

Substitute sweet pickles for a sweeter tartar sauce.

Use Greek yogurt or a mixture of yogurt and mayonnaise for a lighter version.
