This Melted Swiss, Turkey, and Cranberry Crostini recipe combines the tartness of homemade cranberry sauce with savory turkey and melted Swiss cheese atop crispy baguette slices. Enhanced with fresh rosemary and a drizzle of hot honey, these crostini make an elegant appetizer or festive snack perfect for holiday gatherings or casual entertaining.

Ingredients

Cranberry Sauce

  • 3 cups fresh cranberries
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup water
  • ½ cup dried cranberries
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1 tablespoon orange juice

Crostini

  • 1 French baguette, cut into ¼ inch slices
  • 6-8 ounces cooked turkey breast, thinly sliced or shredded
  • ¾ pound Swiss cheese, shredded
  • ⅓ cup fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons hot honey

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cranberry Sauce: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the fresh cranberries, granulated sugar, water, dried cranberries, orange zest, and orange juice. Bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring occasionally, and cook until the cranberries burst and the sauce thickens, about 10-15 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  2. Prep the Baguette Slices: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Arrange the baguette slices in a single layer on a baking sheet. Toast them in the oven for about 8-10 minutes until they are crisp and lightly golden. Remove and set aside.
  3. Assemble the Crostini: Sprinkle shredded Swiss cheese over each toasted baguette slice. Top with thinly sliced or shredded cooked turkey breast, followed by a small spoonful of the cranberry sauce. Sprinkle fresh chopped rosemary over each crostini to add a fragrant herbal note.
  4. Melt the Cheese: Return the assembled crostini to the oven and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes or until the Swiss cheese is melted and bubbly.
  5. Finish with Hot Honey: Remove crostini from the oven and drizzle each with a little hot honey to add a touch of sweetness with a subtle spicy kick. Serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Use day-old baguette or toast slices well to ensure crostini are crisp and hold toppings better.
  • You can prepare the cranberry sauce a day ahead and refrigerate it.
  • For a milder flavor, omit the hot honey or substitute with regular honey.
  • If turkey breast is not available, roast chicken or any deli meat can be used as a substitute.
  • Fresh rosemary can be omitted or substituted with thyme for a different herbal note.
