A quick and flavorful mixed berry compote made with frozen berries, brown sugar, butter, vanilla, and a hint of cinnamon. Perfect as a topping for pancakes, waffles, yogurt, or desserts.

Ingredients

16 oz frozen mixed berries

1/2 cup light brown sugar (110g, packed)

1/4 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)

2 tbsp salted butter

1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Place frozen berries and brown sugar in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Stir occasionally as berries release juices and sugar dissolves.
  3. Add ground cinnamon (if using) and simmer for 8–10 minutes until slightly thickened.
  4. Stir in butter and vanilla extract until smooth and glossy.
  5. Cool slightly before serving or store for later use.

Notes

Use fresh berries instead of frozen; reduce cooking time slightly.

Add lemon juice for brightness or liqueur for an adult twist.

Simmer longer or add cornstarch slurry for a thicker compote.

For a smoother sauce, blend with an immersion blender.

Store in fridge up to 5 days or freeze up to 2 months.
