Parmesan Garlic Rice is a creamy and flavorful side dish made with tender long-grain rice cooked in broth and enriched with butter, garlic, and sharp Parmesan cheese. This easy recipe is versatile and pairs perfectly with a variety of main dishes, with optional fresh herbs adding a bright finish.

Ingredients

4 tablespoons butter, divided

1 tablespoon minced garlic

1 cup long grain rice, rinsed and drained

2 cups chicken broth, vegetable broth, or water

½ teaspoon onion powder

½ teaspoon granulated garlic

4 tablespoons whole milk

½ cup shredded Parmesan cheese, plus extra for serving

Salt and pepper, to taste

Optional garnish: parsley, green onions, or chives

Instructions

  1. Melt 2 tablespoons butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add garlic and sauté 1 minute until fragrant.

  2. Stir in rice and toast for 1-2 minutes to coat in butter and garlic.

  3. Add broth, onion powder, granulated garlic, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil.

  4. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer 18-20 minutes until rice is tender and liquid absorbed.

  5. Remove from heat and stir in remaining 2 tablespoons butter, milk, and Parmesan cheese until creamy.

  6. Adjust seasoning as needed. Garnish with herbs if desired. Serve warm with extra Parmesan.

Notes

Substitute half-and-half or cream for richer texture.

Add sautéed mushrooms or peas for extra flavor and texture.

Swap Parmesan for Pecorino Romano or Asiago cheese for a different taste.

Store leftovers in airtight container in fridge up to 3 days.

Reheat gently with splash of milk or broth to restore creaminess.
