Slow Cooker Sweet and Sour Meatballs are the perfect hands-off dish for busy days or parties. Tender meatballs simmer in a tangy-sweet sauce made from pineapple, brown sugar, and soy sauce. This easy, flavorful recipe is sure to be a hit with family and friends, served over rice or noodles.

Ingredients

1 bag (32 oz) frozen precooked homestyle meatballs (about 60 meatballs)

1 can (20 oz) pineapple tidbits (do not drain)

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/3 cup rice vinegar

1/3 cup reduced-sodium soy sauce

1/3 cup water

1 green pepper, sliced

Cornstarch Slurry:

1 tablespoon cornstarch

2 tablespoons cold water

Instructions

  • Place frozen meatballs in the slow cooker.

  • Add pineapple tidbits (with juice), brown sugar, rice vinegar, soy sauce, water, and sliced green pepper. Stir to combine.

  • Cover and cook on low for 4-6 hours or on high for 2-3 hours until meatballs are heated through.

  • In the last 30 minutes, mix cornstarch with cold water to make a slurry and stir into the slow cooker.

  • Continue cooking until the sauce thickens.

  • Serve over steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

You can add other vegetables like onions, carrots, or bell peppers for extra flavor and texture.

For a spicier version, add red pepper flakes or chopped chili peppers.

Homemade meatballs can be used if preferred.
