With its irresistible combination of sweet peaches and a crisp, buttery topping, this comfort food is perfect for any occasion. Serve it warm with ice cream or whipped cream for the ultimate treat.

Ingredients

1 stick unsalted butter

1 cup all-purpose flour

2 cups granulated sugar, divided

1 tablespoon baking powder

¼ teaspoon kosher salt

1 cup milk

4 cups peaches, peeled and sliced (about 67 medium peaches)

1 tablespoon lemon juice, fresh

½ teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)

Pinch of ground nutmeg (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  • Prepare the peaches:
In a medium bowl, toss the sliced peaches with 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice. Let them sit for 10-15 minutes to release their juices.

  • Make the batter:
In a separate bowl, combine flour, 1 cup of granulated sugar, baking powder, kosher salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg (optional). Add the milk and stir until smooth.

  • Melt the butter:
Place the stick of unsalted butter in a 9×13-inch baking dish and melt it in the oven while it preheats (about 5-7 minutes). Remove from the oven once melted.

  • Assemble the cobbler:
Pour the batter over the melted butter in the baking dish (do not stir). Spoon the peach mixture evenly over the batter. Do not stir.

  • Bake the cobbler:
Bake for 45-50 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the batter comes out clean. The peaches should be bubbling, and the crust should be firm to the touch.

  • Serve:
Allow the cobbler to cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

Different fruits: Swap peaches for other fruits like berries, apples, or nectarines for variations.

Spices: Add ground ginger or allspice for a more complex flavor alongside or instead of cinnamon and nutmeg.

Vegan version: Use vegan butter and a non-dairy milk for a dairy-free version.
