Enjoy a luxurious and protein-rich Tahini Hot Chocolate that combines the rich flavors of cocoa and tahini with the natural sweetness of medjool dates or coconut sugar. This creamy and dreamy beverage is enhanced with a touch of warmth from cinnamon and sea salt, boosted with collagen peptides for added protein, and can be customized with coconut whipped cream and chocolate shavings for a decadent finish.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 Tbsp tahini
  • 1 pitted medjool date (or 2 tsp coconut sugar, or other sweetener of choice)
  • ½ tsp maple syrup or honey (if not vegan)
  • 1 pinch sea salt
  • 1 pinch ground cinnamon
  • 2 Tbsp collagen peptides (optional, omit if vegan)
  • 2 Tbsp coconut milk powder (or omit and substitute hot water with warmed milk of choice)
  • 1¼ cup very hot water (or milk of choice)

For Serving (optional)

  • Coconut whipped cream
  • Drizzle of tahini
  • Dusting of cocoa powder
  • Shaved dark chocolate

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Sweetener: If using a medjool date, ensure it is pitted and roughly chop or blend it so it incorporates smoothly into the drink. Alternatively, measure 2 teaspoons of coconut sugar or a sweetener of your choice.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mug or small bowl, combine the cocoa powder, tahini, sea salt, ground cinnamon, and collagen peptides (if using). Stir these dry ingredients together to combine evenly.
  3. Add Sweeteners and Liquid Base: Add the pitted date or coconut sugar, along with the maple syrup or honey if using. Next, add the coconut milk powder if including. Pour in the 1¼ cup very hot water or warmed milk alternative to the dry mixture.
  4. Whisk Until Smooth: Using a whisk or handheld frother, vigorously mix all ingredients until the tahini is fully blended into the cocoa, and the drink becomes creamy and smooth with no lumps from the powders or sweeteners.
  5. Adjust Sweetness and Temperature: Taste your hot chocolate and adjust sweetness if necessary. Warm further if the drink is not hot enough.
  6. Serve with Optional Garnishes: Top with coconut whipped cream, a drizzle of tahini, a light dusting of cocoa powder, and/or shaved dark chocolate for added richness and decorative flair.

Notes

  • For a vegan version, omit the collagen peptides and substitute honey with maple syrup or another plant-based sweetener.
  • Coconut milk powder can be omitted if preferred; simply use warmed milk or a plant-based milk alternative in place of the hot water.
  • The medjool date adds natural sweetness and a silky texture but can be substituted with your choice of sweetener according to dietary preferences.
  • Adjust the amount of cinnamon and sea salt to taste for enhanced warming and flavor balance.
  • This recipe can be easily doubled or tripled for serving more people.
