The Best Fluffy Buttercream Frosting is a classic, versatile frosting that’s rich, creamy, and light as air. Perfect for cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and other desserts, it can be flavored with vanilla, chocolate, or any extract. Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

4 cups powdered sugar, sifted

Pinch of salt

1 tablespoon vanilla bean paste or clear vanilla extract (or flavor of your choice)

2 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. Beat softened butter in a large bowl with an electric mixer on medium speed until creamy and pale, about 2–3 minutes.
  2. Gradually add sifted powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing on low to prevent a sugar cloud.
  3. Add a pinch of salt, vanilla, and milk, then beat on medium-high for 3–5 minutes until light, fluffy, and smooth.
  4. Adjust consistency by adding more milk for softer frosting or more powdered sugar for thicker texture.
  5. Use immediately to frost cakes or cupcakes, or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator until ready to use.

Notes

Chocolate version: add ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder.

Citrus twist: add 1–2 teaspoons lemon or orange zest.

Coffee flavor: mix in 1–2 teaspoons instant espresso powder.

Colored frosting: add gel food coloring as desired.
