These 2 Ingredient Baked Valentine Donuts are a quick and easy treat perfect for Valentine’s Day or any special occasion. Made with just applesauce and red velvet cake mix, these donuts are baked to perfection, then dipped in a smooth vanilla glaze for a sweet finishing touch. With minimal ingredients and a simple method, they offer a delicious homemade dessert without the fuss.

Ingredients

Donuts

  • 2 cups applesauce
  • 1 box red velvet cake mix

Glaze

  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk
  • 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Pink gel food coloring (optional)
  • Sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Spray one or two 6-cavity donut pans generously with non-stick cooking spray and set them aside to be ready for the batter.
  2. Mix Donut Batter: In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of applesauce and the entire box of red velvet cake mix. Use a whisk to stir until the mixture is well combined. Avoid adding any extra ingredients listed on the cake mix box.
  3. Fill Donut Pans: Transfer the batter into a gallon-sized resealable plastic bag. Seal the bag tightly and cut a small corner to create a makeshift piping bag. Carefully pipe the batter into each donut cavity, filling each nearly full. This batter should make approximately 12 donuts depending on your pan size.
  4. Bake the Donuts: Place the filled donut pan(s) in the preheated oven and bake for 7-8 minutes or until the donuts are cooked through and spring back slightly to the touch.
  5. Cool Down: Allow the donuts to cool in the pans for at least 5 minutes. Then, gently remove them using a fork to avoid breaking their delicate shape. Let them cool completely for glazing.
  6. Prepare the Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together 1 ½ cups of powdered sugar, 1 ½ teaspoons of vanilla extract, and 2 tablespoons of milk. Add additional milk slowly to reach your desired glaze consistency. For a Valentine’s theme, optionally mix in pink gel food coloring.
  7. Glaze the Donuts: Dip each cooled donut into the glaze, turning to coat completely. Place the glazed donuts on wax paper to set. While the glaze is still wet, sprinkle with sprinkles if desired for a colorful finish.

Notes

  • Be sure to not overfill the donut pans; the batter will rise.
  • If you don’t have a piping bag, you can spoon the batter into the donut cavities carefully.
  • Use cooled donuts for glazing to prevent the glaze from melting off.
  • Store glazed donuts in an airtight container for up to 2 days for best freshness.
  • For a dairy-free option, replace the milk in the glaze with almond or oat milk.
