Ingredients

700 grams Bhetki Fish Fillet

3 tablespoons Olive Oil, divided

3 Oranges

2 tablespoons Butter

4 Cloves Garlic, minced

1 teaspoon Honey

½ cup Basil Leaves

Salt and Pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Prepare the Fish: Pat the Bhetki fish fillets dry with a paper towel and season with salt and pepper on both sides.

  • Cook the Fish: Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the fish fillets. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 145°F). Remove the fish from the skillet and set aside.

  • Make the Citrus Basil Butter Sauce: In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium and add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil and the butter. Once the butter melts, add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.

  • Add the Citrus and Basil: Zest and juice the three oranges. Add the orange zest and juice to the skillet, followed by the honey. Stir to combine and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce slightly thickens.

  • Finish the Sauce: Add the fresh basil leaves to the skillet and stir until wilted and fragrant. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper.

  • Serve: Place the fish fillets on plates and spoon the citrus basil butter sauce over the top. Garnish with additional fresh basil leaves, if desired, and serve immediately.

Notes

Other Fish Options: You can substitute Bhetki fish with mild white fish fillets like cod, tilapia, or haddock.

Herb Variations: Fresh parsley, cilantro, or thyme can replace basil for different herbal notes.

Spicy Kick: Add red pepper flakes or chopped jalapeños to the sauce for some extra heat.

Additional Citrus: Add lemon or lime to the sauce for a more complex citrus flavor.
