Baked to a golden perfection, these bars are a perfect treat for any occasion, offering a perfect balance of texture and sweetness in every bite.

Ingredients

Crust

  • 1/2 cup salted butter
  • 2 cups graham cracker crumbs

Layers

  • 1 1/2 cups chopped nuts (pecans recommended)
  • 1 1/2 cups sweetened shredded coconut
  • 1 1/4 cups chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup butterscotch chips
  • 14 ounces sweetened condensed milk (1 can)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it is hot and ready for baking the bars.
  2. Prepare Crust: Melt the butter directly in a 9×13 inch baking pan. Once melted, add the graham cracker crumbs and press the mixture firmly and evenly into the bottom of the pan to form the crust layer.
  3. Add Layers: Layer the chopped nuts evenly over the crust, followed by a layer of shredded coconut, then sprinkle the chocolate chips and butterscotch chips evenly on top.
  4. Add Sweetened Condensed Milk: Pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the layered ingredients, allowing it to soak through and bind the layers together during baking.
  5. Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until the top is lightly golden brown and bubbly around the edges.
  6. Cool and Cut: Remove from the oven and allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before cutting into 16 squares to serve.

Notes

  • For best texture, use salted butter to balance the sweetness of the layers.
  • Feel free to substitute pecans with walnuts or almonds based on preference.
  • Cool completely before cutting to prevent the bars from falling apart.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
  • The sweetened condensed milk acts as a binder, so do not omit it for best results.
