This delicious Air Fryer Baked Apples recipe offers a quick and healthy dessert option, combining juicy apple wedges with cinnamon, maple syrup, and a touch of vegan butter. The air fryer cooks the apples evenly and quickly, delivering a warm, tender treat perfect for any season.

Ingredients

Apples

  • 4 large apples (a mix of Granny Smith and Honeycrisp recommended)

Coating Mixture

  • 3 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon vegan butter or margarine, melted (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon tapioca starch (or corn starch)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the coating: In a medium bowl, combine the maple syrup, melted vegan butter (if using), cinnamon, and tapioca starch. Mix thoroughly until well blended to form a flavorful coating for the apples.
  2. Slice the apples: Wash the apples thoroughly, removing any stickers. Core the apples and slice each one into 8 wedges or segments. Place the apple wedges into the bowl with the coating mixture and toss gently to ensure each piece is evenly coated.
  3. Set up the air fryer: Pour 1/4 cup of water into the bottom of the air fryer, beneath the basket to create steam and prevent burning. Arrange the coated apple wedges in an even layer inside the air fryer basket.
  4. Air fry the apples: Cook the apples at 380°F (193°C) for 12-15 minutes until they become fork-tender. Stir or mix the apple wedges gently every 5 minutes to promote even cooking and caramelization.
  5. Serve warm: Once cooked, remove the apple wedges from the air fryer and serve them immediately while warm. Enjoy as a healthy dessert or snack.

Notes

  • Using a mix of Granny Smith and Honeycrisp apples provides a balance of tartness and sweetness.
  • You can substitute tapioca starch with corn starch if needed.
  • Adding vegan butter is optional but enhances the flavor and texture.
  • Keep an eye on the apples while air frying to avoid overcooking.
  • Serve with a scoop of vegan ice cream or whipped cream for an indulgent treat.
