A simple and healthy recipe for crispy baked tortilla chips seasoned with lime juice and sea salt. These homemade chips are perfect for snacking or serving with your favorite dips, offering a fresher and less oily alternative to store-bought fried chips.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup olive oil or avocado oil
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice (about 1 lime)
  • 12 corn tortillas (5-6 inches, yellow or white)
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt (plus more to taste, preferably Mexican sea salt)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and position the oven rack to the top level. Place a wire rack on top of a baking pan to allow air circulation for even crisping, though you can bake directly on the pan if needed.
  2. Prepare the tortillas: In a small bowl, combine the olive oil and lime juice. Brush both sides of each whole tortilla with this mixture to enhance flavor and moisture for baking.
  3. Cut tortillas: Stack half of the tortillas on a cutting board and cut them into 6 equal triangles using a sharp knife or pizza cutter. Repeat with the remaining tortillas.
  4. Arrange and season: Lay the tortilla triangles in a single layer on the prepared wire rack. Sprinkle sea salt generously over one side, then flip the chips and apply salt to the other side as well.
  5. Bake: Place the baking pan with the rack in the preheated oven and bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until the edges turn a golden brown color.
  6. Cool and store: Remove from the oven and allow the chips to cool on the pan for 10 to 15 minutes; they will continue to crisp as they cool. Serve warm or store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.

Notes

  • Using a wire rack allows air to circulate around the chips for even crispness, but baking directly on a baking sheet works as well.
  • Adjust salt amount according to your taste preference.
  • For extra flavor, sprinkle with chili powder or paprika before baking.
  • Store the chips in an airtight container to maintain freshness and crispness.
