This refreshing Blueberry Lemonade combines the tartness of fresh lemons with the sweet, vibrant flavor of blueberry puree. Perfectly chilled, it’s an ideal homemade beverage for hot days, balancing natural sweetness with tangy citrus and antioxidant-rich blueberries.

Ingredients

Blueberry Puree

  • 1 pint fresh blueberries
  • 1/2 cup water

Lemonade

  • 4 1/2 cups water
  • 1 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice (juice of 5-6 lemons)
  • 1/2 cup sugar (or an appropriate amount of your favorite alternative)
  • 1 1/2 cups blueberry puree

Instructions

  1. Make the Blueberry Puree: Rinse the fresh blueberries thoroughly and place them in a saucepan with 1/2 cup of water. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to low. Cover the pan and cook for about 3 minutes, stirring frequently, until the berries are softened and the liquid turns a deep purple hue. Transfer the cooked berries and liquid to a blender and puree until completely smooth. Chill the puree in the refrigerator until ready to use.
  2. Prepare the Lemonade: In a large pitcher, combine 4 1/2 cups of water with 1 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice. Add 1/2 cup of sugar and stir thoroughly until the sugar dissolves fully. Pour in approximately 1 1/2 cups of the chilled blueberry puree, adjusting the amount to your taste preferences. Mix well and refrigerate until cold.
  3. Serve: When ready to serve, stir the lemonade mixture once more. Pour into glasses over ice if desired. Garnish with fresh blueberries or lemon slices for an extra touch of freshness.

Notes

  • You can substitute regular sugar with honey, agave syrup, or a sugar alternative to reduce calories or adjust sweetness.
  • Taste the lemonade before adding all the blueberry puree; adjust for your preferred balance of tartness and sweetness.
  • For a sparkling version, replace some or all of the water with sparkling water just before serving.
  • Store leftover lemonade in the refrigerator and consume within 2-3 days for best freshness.
  • Shaking or stirring occasionally when chilled helps keep flavors well mixed.
