Ingredients

Filling

  • 2 cups cooked and shredded chicken
  • 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt (to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (to taste)

Rolls

  • 16 oz refrigerated crescent rolls (two 8 oz cans)
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 2 cups Italian bread crumbs

Sauce

  • 1 can cream of chicken soup (approx. 10.5 oz)
  • 1/2 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for baking the crescent roll ups.
  2. Prepare the Filling: In a large bowl, combine the cooked shredded chicken, softened cream cheese, 2 tablespoons of milk, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly until the ingredients are well blended into a creamy filling.
  3. Separate Crescent Rolls: Open the refrigerated crescent roll cans and carefully separate the dough into individual triangular pieces.
  4. Fill and Roll: Place a spoonful of the chicken filling at the bottom wide edge of each crescent triangle. Fold the bottom corners in towards the center and then roll the dough upwards to enclose the filling completely.
  5. Coat the Rolls: Dip each rolled crescent first into the melted butter, ensuring it is coated evenly, then roll it in the Italian bread crumbs, covering it completely for a crunchy outer layer.
  6. Arrange on Baking Sheet: Place each coated roll seam side down on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper or lightly greased to prevent sticking. Repeat this process for all rolls.
  7. Bake: Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until they turn lightly golden brown and the filling inside is heated through.
  8. Prepare the Sauce: While the rolls are baking, combine the cream of chicken soup and 1/2 cup of milk in a small pot over medium heat. Stir continuously until the mixture is warm and smooth, forming a comforting gravy.
  9. Serve: Once the rolls are baked, serve them hot with the warm cream of chicken gravy poured over the top or as a dipping sauce alongside.

Notes

  • Make sure the cream cheese is softened for easier mixing.
  • If you prefer a spicier filling, add some garlic powder or paprika to the chicken mixture.
  • You can substitute Italian bread crumbs with panko for an extra crunch.
  • For a lighter option, use reduced-fat cream cheese and soup.
  • Serve these rolls as an appetizer, party snack, or a quick meal paired with a fresh salad.
