This creamy vegan Alfredo sauce recipe offers a delicious dairy-free alternative to traditional Alfredo, using silken tofu and plant-based milk to create a smooth, flavorful sauce. Perfectly seasoned with Italian herbs, garlic powder, and nutritional yeast, it pairs beautifully with pasta for a quick and satisfying meal that’s both vegan and wholesome.

Ingredients

Pasta

  • 1/2 pound pasta

Sauce

  • 1 block silken tofu (about 15 oz)
  • 1 cup plant-based milk
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 4 tablespoons nutritional yeast (or substitute with parmesan cheese/vegan parmesan)
  • Salt and pepper to taste (about 1/2 tsp salt and 1/2 tsp pepper recommended)
  • 3 tablespoons hemp hearts

Optional Garnish

  • Fresh basil
  • Diced sun-dried tomatoes

Instructions

  1. Cook Pasta: Cook the pasta according to the package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. Prepare Sauce: In a blender or food processor, combine silken tofu, plant-based milk, lemon juice, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, nutritional yeast, salt, pepper, and hemp hearts. Blend until completely smooth and creamy with no lumps remaining.
  3. Heat Sauce: Pour the blended sauce into a medium saucepan or skillet and heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until warmed through but not boiling.
  4. Combine and Serve: Toss the cooked pasta with the warm sauce until fully coated. Serve immediately, optionally garnished with fresh basil and diced sun-dried tomatoes for added flavor and color.

Notes

  • Silken tofu is key for achieving the creamy texture; avoid using firm tofu.
  • Plant-based milk can be any variety such as almond, soy, or oat milk depending on preference.
  • Adjust salt and pepper according to taste.
  • For a nut-free version, substitute hemp hearts with sunflower seeds or omit them.
  • To add richness, consider adding a splash of olive oil while heating the sauce.
  • This sauce works well with any shape of pasta.
  • This recipe serves 4 but can be easily doubled or halved.
