A quick and flavorful side dish featuring tender green beans sautéed with garlic and butter, seasoned with kosher salt and freshly cracked black pepper. Perfect for a healthy, vibrant addition to any meal.

Ingredients

Green Beans

  • Pounds green beans (fresh, ends trimmed)

For Cooking

  • 3 Tablespoons water
  • 3 Tablespoons butter
  • 3 Cloves garlic (thinly sliced)
  • ½ Teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ Teaspoon black pepper (freshly cracked)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the green beans: Trim the ends of the fresh green beans to ensure they cook evenly and have a clean presentation.
  2. Steam the green beans: Add the green beans and 3 tablespoons of water to a large skillet. Cover the skillet with a lid and cook over medium heat for 4 to 5 minutes until the green beans are bright green and slightly tender.
  3. Evaporate excess water: Remove the lid from the skillet and continue cooking the green beans until all the water has evaporated. This will slightly sauté the beans and concentrate their flavor.
  4. Add garlic and butter: Add 3 tablespoons of butter, thinly sliced garlic, kosher salt, and freshly cracked black pepper to the skillet. Toss everything together and cook for 2 to 4 minutes until the butter has melted and the garlic becomes fragrant and lightly golden.
  5. Serve immediately: Transfer the garlic green beans to a serving bowl or platter. Serve hot as a delicious and healthy side dish.

Notes

  • Trim green beans properly for best texture and appearance.
  • Be careful not to overcook the garlic; it should be fragrant and lightly golden but not burnt.
  • Covering the skillet helps steam the green beans quickly and retains their vibrant color.
  • This dish pairs well with grilled meats, poultry, or fish.
  • You can substitute butter with olive oil for a dairy-free version.
