Ingredients

Potatoes

  • 3 Pounds Yukon Gold potatoes (peeled and quartered)

Flavorings

  • 6 Cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 Teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 Teaspoon salt
  • ¼ Teaspoon black pepper

Dairy

  • ½ Cup unsalted butter (at room temperature)
  • 8 Ounces sour cream (at room temperature)
  • ¼ Cup whole milk (at room temperature)

Garnish (optional)

  • Chives or parsley (fresh chopped)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the potatoes: Peel and quarter 3 pounds of Yukon Gold potatoes to ensure even cooking and quicker boiling.
  2. Boil the potatoes: Place the potatoes in a large pot and cover them with cold water, making sure they are fully submerged.
  3. Cook the potatoes: Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce to a simmer. Cook the potatoes for 12 to 15 minutes or until they are fork-tender.
  4. Drain and transfer: Drain the cooked potatoes well and place them into a large bowl for mashing.
  5. Mash the potatoes: Add ½ cup unsalted butter, ¼ cup whole milk, 8 ounces sour cream, minced garlic, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper to the potatoes. Mash until you achieve your desired creamy consistency.
  6. Adjust seasoning and serve: Taste the mashed potatoes and add more salt or pepper if needed. Serve hot, garnished with freshly chopped chives or parsley if desired.

Notes

  • Use Yukon Gold potatoes for their buttery flavor and smooth texture.
  • Keeping dairy products at room temperature helps them blend better and creates a creamier mash.
  • You can substitute sour cream with Greek yogurt for a tangier flavor and extra protein.
  • For vegan variation, use plant-based butter and milk alternatives.
  • Make sure not to overcook potatoes to avoid a watery mash.
