These Grilled Sweet Potato Wedges with Hot Honey Drizzle are a delicious and easy summer side dish. The sweet potatoes are seasoned simply with avocado oil and sea salt, grilled to perfection with beautiful char marks, then finished with a spicy-sweet hot honey drizzle that adds a perfect kick. Ideal for barbecue gatherings or as a flavorful accompaniment to any meal.

Ingredients

Sweet Potato Wedges

  • 2-3 medium sweet potatoes
  • 2 Tablespoons avocado oil
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt

Drizzle

  • 3 Tablespoons hot honey

Instructions

  1. Preheat Grill: Preheat your grill to medium heat, approximately 450°F, to prepare for grilling the sweet potato wedges.
  2. Prepare Sweet Potatoes: Leave the skins on the sweet potatoes and cut each one in half lengthwise. Then, cut each half into wedges lengthwise, aiming for uniform sizes with the wider parts no bigger than an inch to ensure even cooking.
  3. Season Wedges: Toss the sweet potato wedges in avocado oil and sprinkle with sea salt evenly to coat them well.
  4. Grill Wedges: Lay the wedges directly on the grill grates. Cover and cook for 3 minutes, then flip each wedge and cook for an additional 3 minutes covered. This step creates beautiful grilled marks and begins the cooking process.
  5. Indirect Cooking: Move the wedges to an indirect heat zone on the grill, such as an area without direct flames or the upper rack if available. Cover again and cook for 8-10 minutes, checking after 7-8 minutes. If the wedges darken too quickly and are not tender, reduce the grill temperature. The wedges should be fork tender and have some crispy edges.
  6. Serve: Transfer the grilled sweet potato wedges to a serving dish and drizzle with the hot honey just before serving for a sweet and spicy finish.

Notes

  • Use medium-sized sweet potatoes for even cooking.
  • Cut wedges uniformly to ensure they cook evenly.
  • If you don’t have hot honey, mix honey with a pinch of cayenne pepper as a substitute.
  • Adjust grill heat as necessary to avoid burning while ensuring tenderness.
  • Can be made on a gas or charcoal grill.
