A hearty and flavorful one-pan meal featuring tender Yukon gold potatoes and savory spiced ground beef, perfect for a quick and satisfying dinner in just 32 minutes.

Ingredients

For the Potatoes

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (divided)
  • 1 pound Yukon gold potatoes (diced into ½-inch pieces)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

For the Ground Beef

  • 1 pound 90% lean ground beef
  • 1 medium onion (finely chopped)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon 7 spice
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin
  • 2 garlic cloves (minced)

For Garnish

  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. Cook the Potatoes: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced Yukon gold potatoes and season them with ½ teaspoon salt and ½ teaspoon black pepper. Cook the potatoes, stirring occasionally, until they become golden brown and tender, about 15 minutes. Once cooked, remove the potatoes from the skillet and set them aside.
  2. Brown the Ground Beef and Onions: In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Then add the ground beef and finely chopped onion. Season with the remaining ½ teaspoon salt, ½ teaspoon black pepper, paprika, 7 spice, and ground cumin. Cook over medium heat, breaking up the beef with a spatula, until it is browned and fully cooked through, approximately 8 to 10 minutes.
  3. Add Garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook the mixture for about 2 minutes until the garlic is fragrant.
  4. Combine Potatoes and Beef: Return the cooked potatoes to the skillet and gently stir to combine everything evenly. Let the flavors meld together briefly on medium heat.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Remove from heat and garnish the dish with freshly chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

  • Use Yukon gold potatoes for their creamy texture and ability to hold shape during cooking.
  • The 7 spice blend adds a unique Middle Eastern flavor, but you can substitute with a mix of cinnamon, allspice, and nutmeg if unavailable.
  • Adjust seasoning to taste, especially if you prefer a spicier dish.
  • This recipe works well with other protein choices such as ground lamb or turkey.
  • For crispier potatoes, you can parboil them before frying.
