This Healthy Breakfast Apple Crumble is a warm and comforting dish featuring sweet, sautéed apples layered with a crunchy, golden pecan and oat crumble topping. Made with natural sweeteners and wholesome ingredients, it’s perfect for a nutritious breakfast or a lighter dessert option.

Ingredients

Apple Filling

  • 6 sweet apples, chopped
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tsp coconut oil

Crumble Topping

  • 2/3 cup oats
  • 2/3 cup pecans
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 2 tsp honey

Instructions

  1. Prepare the apples: Chop the apples into bite-sized pieces and sauté them in a pan over medium-high heat with 2 tsp of coconut oil, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Cover the pan and cook for 2-3 minutes until the apples soften slightly.
  2. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 180°C (350°F) to prepare for baking the crumble.
  3. Make the crumble topping: Place the oats, pecans, 1 tbsp coconut oil, and honey into a food processor. Add about 1 tbsp of water and pulse until the mixture forms crumbly clusters that stick together.
  4. Assemble the crumble: Lightly oil a small baking pan or line it with parchment paper. Spread the sautéed apples evenly on the bottom. Then, press and sprinkle the crumble topping over the apples to form larger clusters.
  5. Bake: Place the baking pan in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the crumble topping is golden brown and crisp.
  6. Serve: Allow the apple crumble to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy it warm with milk, yogurt for breakfast, or a scoop of ice cream for dessert.

Notes

  • You can substitute pecans with walnuts or almonds if preferred.
  • To keep the dish vegan, replace honey with maple syrup or agave nectar.
  • For a gluten-free option, ensure your oats are certified gluten-free.
  • The crumble topping can be processed to your preferred texture—more coarse for crunch or finer for a crumbly texture.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated before serving.
