This easy homemade guacamole seasoning blends classic spices for a perfectly balanced and flavorful guacamole. Combining onion powder, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, crushed red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper, this seasoning enhances the creamy texture of ripe avocados. Fresh lime juice and optional cilantro add brightness and freshness, making this guacamole a quick, crowd-pleasing dip ideal for snacks and parties.

Ingredients

Guacamole Seasoning

  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • 1/8 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt or kosher salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Guacamole

  • 4 ripe avocados, pitted
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro (optional)
  • Juice of 1/2 large lime

Instructions

  1. Prepare seasoning mix: Combine onion powder, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, crushed red pepper flakes (if using), kosher salt, and black pepper in a small bowl. Stir well to evenly blend the spices. If using dried cilantro, add it here to infuse the seasoning mix.
  2. Mash avocados: Scoop the flesh of the ripe avocados into a mixing bowl. Using a fork, mash them to your preferred consistency, whether chunky or creamy.
  3. Combine ingredients: Add the fresh chopped cilantro (if using), the prepared seasoning mix, and the fresh lime juice to the mashed avocados. Stir thoroughly to combine all flavors evenly.
  4. Rest for best flavor: Transfer the guacamole into an airtight container and refrigerate for 30 minutes to 1 hour. This resting period allows the seasoning to meld and deepen the flavors. Stir the guacamole before serving.

Notes

  • Adjust cayenne pepper and crushed red pepper flakes according to your heat preference.
  • Fresh lime juice not only enhances flavor but also helps prevent avocado browning.
  • For a zestier guacamole, add diced tomatoes or onions just before serving.
  • Store leftover guacamole in an airtight container and press plastic wrap directly onto the surface to minimize air exposure and browning.
