A simple and refreshing Matcha Soda recipe with just three ingredients. This fizzy green tea drink combines vibrant matcha powder with sparkling water for a light, energizing beverage perfect for any time of day.

Ingredients

Matcha Mixture

  • 2 teaspoons (4 g) Matcha Powder
  • 3 Tablespoons (45 ml) Hot Water, 175°F (80°C)

Soda Base

  • 5 oz Soda Water (or Tonic Water/Flavored Sparkling Water)
  • Ice Cubes (as needed)

Instructions

  1. Warm the whisk: Soak your bamboo whisk in a cup of hot water for 1–2 minutes. This softens the tines, preventing breakage and ensuring a smoother whisking experience.
  2. Sift the matcha: Sift 2 teaspoons of matcha powder into a bowl or cup to remove any clumps and achieve a smooth consistency.
  3. Add hot water and whisk: Pour 3 tablespoons of hot water (around 175°F/80°C, not boiling) over the matcha powder. Use the bamboo whisk or a milk frother to whisk vigorously until the matcha becomes frothy.
  4. Prepare the glass: Fill a glass with ice cubes to chill your drink properly.
  5. Add soda water: Pour 5 ounces of soda water (or tonic/flavored sparkling water) over the ice in the glass.
  6. Combine and serve: Slowly pour the frothy whisked matcha over the soda water. Watch the vibrant green swirl as they mix. Gently stir if desired and enjoy immediately for the freshest flavor.

Notes

  • Use water at 175°F (80°C) for optimal matcha flavor without bitterness.
  • Sifting the matcha prevents clumps and ensures a smooth drink.
  • You can substitute soda water with tonic or your favorite flavored sparkling water for variety.
  • Drink immediately after preparation to enjoy the best fizz and freshness.
