This Oven S’mores recipe offers a quick and easy way to enjoy the classic campfire treat right in your kitchen. Using the oven broiler to toast marshmallows perfectly golden brown and melt the chocolate, these s’mores are a delightful combination of crispy graham crackers, gooey marshmallows, and rich chocolate, perfect for a sweet snack or dessert.

Ingredients

For the S’mores

  • 12 graham cracker sheet halves
  • 6 (1/2 ounce each) squares good quality chocolate (such as Lindt Intense Orange Dark Chocolate or Lindt milk chocolate)
  • 6 large marshmallows

Instructions

  1. Prepare baking sheet: Lightly grease a baking sheet with non-stick cooking spray to prevent marshmallows from sticking during toasting.
  2. Preheat broiler: Leave the oven rack in the center position and preheat the broiler for 2 to 3 minutes to ensure high, direct heat for toasting.
  3. Arrange marshmallows: Place the marshmallows on the baking sheet, positioning them either sideways or upright so their tops are level for even browning under the broiler.
  4. Toast marshmallows first side: Transfer the baking sheet to the oven and toast the marshmallows until golden brown, approximately 30 seconds to 2 minutes, watching closely to avoid burning. Remove from oven once toasted.
  5. Prepare graham crackers and chocolate: Lay 6 graham cracker halves on a flat surface. If you prefer melty, runny chocolate, place the chocolate squares on these graham crackers now. Otherwise, wait to add chocolate later.
  6. Flip marshmallows and assemble: Turn the toasted marshmallows so the browned side is facing down and place each on top of the prepared graham crackers (and chocolate if added). Return the baking sheet to the oven and toast the marshmallows on this opposite side until just golden brown, about 30 seconds. Remove from oven.
  7. Add remaining chocolate and sandwich: If you did not add chocolate earlier, place the chocolate squares on top of the toasted marshmallows now. Then layer the remaining 6 graham cracker halves on top to form s’mores sandwiches.

Notes

  • Keep a close eye on marshmallows while broiling, as they can burn very quickly.
  • Using high-quality chocolate significantly enhances the flavor of your s’mores.
  • You can experiment with different types of chocolate like dark, milk, or flavored varieties according to your taste.
  • If you prefer less mess, wrap the assembled s’mores in foil and briefly warm in the oven to melt the chocolate and soften the marshmallow further.
  • The broiler rack position is important to avoid burning; keep it in the center of the oven for controlled toasting.
