These Southwest Salsa Turkey Burgers are a flavorful and quick meal perfect for any night of the week. Ground turkey is seasoned with a zesty black bean and corn salsa and a blend of spices, then pan-fried to juicy perfection. Serve them on buns with your favorite toppings for a delicious Southwest-inspired twist on classic burgers.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1-1.25 lbs ground turkey
  • 1/2 cup black bean & corn salsa
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Sea salt (to taste)
  • 1/3 cup plain bread crumbs
  • 1.5 Tbsp vegetable or canola oil

Instructions

  1. Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the ground turkey, black bean & corn salsa, garlic powder, chili powder, cumin, cayenne pepper (if using), sea salt, and bread crumbs. Use your hands to mix well and form the mixture into four evenly sized large patties.
  2. Heat the Skillet: Place a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the vegetable or canola oil. Let it heat for about one minute, then swirl the pan to evenly coat the bottom with oil.
  3. Cook the Burgers: Add the turkey patties to the hot skillet. Cook for about 7 minutes on each side, or until the burgers are well browned and fully cooked through. Cooking time may vary depending on thickness. Using a cast iron skillet is recommended for a nice char, but a regular skillet works well too.
  4. Serve: Remove the burgers from the skillet and serve hot on buns. Top with sliced avocado, cheddar cheese, or your favorite burger toppings to complement the Southwest flavors.

Notes

  • Ensure the turkey burgers are cooked to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) for safe consumption.
  • You can substitute bread crumbs with gluten-free bread crumbs for a gluten-free version.
  • Adjust the cayenne pepper quantity to control the heat level according to your taste.
  • For a lower-fat option, you may use a non-stick skillet and reduce the oil slightly.
  • Leftover cooked patties can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated.
